Rootbeer Richie and The Reveille – a who’s who of Denver musicians – are bringing the Swamp pop party to the mountains. Rootbeer is a Louisiana native whose propensity for R&B and soul-drenched shouters is causing a dust-up in the Mile High City. The Reveille’s live shows are enjoying a reputation for no-holds-barred, high-energy fun that some have even referred to as a “spiritual awakening.” “The point of the music is to help you feel whatever it is you need to feel,” says Rootbeer.

With a crunchy garage rock base layer, this band throws its diverse influences – Ray Charles, Lee Dorsey and Fats Domino, to name a few – into a simmering cauldron of punchy hooks and R&B horns for what the band calls Swamp pop. It is, Richie says, “New Orleans-style rhythm, blues backbeat on the bass and drums, rock-n-roll guitars, thumping pianos, blaring horns and belted lovelorn lyrics. In short, it’s good-time-dancing music about love and loss.” We dig it.
